Interim Ban on Hoverboards
The Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer imposed an interim ban on the supply of unsafe hoverboards.
A growing number of house fires have been attributed to defective hoverboards both here in Australia and overseas. There have been 21 individual recall alerts since late 2015, confirming major quality and compliance issues surrounding hoverboards.
To add to the confusion for consumers, it appears many are rebranded from the same manufacturer.
The ACCC urges consumers to stop using and charging your hoverboard immediately, unless you are sure it meets the safety standards specified in the ban.
