New Version of AS/NZS 3760 Released As 3760:2022

After 12 years, the primary standard for testing and tagging has been revised and was released 8 June 2022 as AS/NZS 3760:2022.  For many, this slipped under the radar and without much warning the standard was even under review or finalised.

According to the publisher, the entire document was reviewed and has undergone a number of changes resulting in an additional 13 pages.

The key changes include;

  • A significant number of clauses have been renumbered
  • Some clauses in the previous version have been consolidated
  • Many clauses reworded to improve the readability and clarity of the requirement
  • Tables have been renamed
  • Definition and requirements of a Competent Person has been revised
  • Specific mention insulation tape must not be used to provide a repair to a damaged lead
  • Guidance note regarding VSDs now included in Leakage Current Limits table
  • Expanded section on testing the operation of RCDs
  • Expanded section on testing of arc welders

What You Need To Do

One of the changes in 3760:2022 is to the clause relating to the definition of a Competent Person. Maintaining competency levels now includes a requirement that the Competent Person should  keep up to date with changes to the standard. As the word “should” is used, it means this is good practice but not compulsory. It would however be  prudent for every Competent Person to make themself fully aware of all the requirements of the new version.  Remember, ignorance is no excuse.
