Reminder: 3 Monthly Tag Colour Change 1st March 2022

Are you using the designated 3 monthly tag colour coded system in your workplace?

In accordance with AS/NZS 3012, appliances used on construction and demolition sites  are required to be test and tagged every three months and follow a defined tag colour coded system.

Appliances tested and tagged during the period start of September 2021 to end of November 2021 are required to have a GREEN tag attached.

Some sites might apply a “grace period” of one week either side of the change over date. Advise received from Worksafe Vic indicated they are satisfied the testing and tagging is current provided it has not been more than 3 months since the appliance was last checked and the correct tag colour was attached at that time.

RCDs used on these sites are also subject to strict testing requirements that can range from one to three month intervals. This includes RCDs in site shed, incorporated into Portable Socket Outlet Assemblies (PSOAs), generators, inline RCDs on power tool leads etc. Click here for more information.

The building industry standard “Electrical Installations on Construction Sites” details all the requirements.  It identifies that testing of electrical appliances and RCDs can be conducted by

  • A licensed electrician or
  • A licensed electrical inspector or
  • A competent person

The inspection and testing must be carried out in accordance with the standard AS/NZS 3760.
