If you haven’t received any emails from us within 10 minutes, please check your email spam/junk folder in case it has been accidentally captured there. If it’s not there, please contact us by email or phone and we’ll try to sort it our for you.
We have set up a number of “behind-the-scenes” systems to help ensure all our emails arrive in a timely manner however, some servers have very strict spam filter settings that can capture genuine emails. To help overcome this, you can add support@tatsa.com.au in your “white list” settings.
It might also be worth contacting your email server provider and see if the system is blocking us for some reason.
For each student you register we need you to record;
- their name
- address
- a unique email address
- a contact phone number
Please note: It is very important you record a unique email address for each student. Using an email address accessed by more than one student will cause problems with their course progression and getting important information delivered to them in a timely manner.
We recommend against the use of generic email addresses, such as admin@ . These generic addresses can cause problems because it relies on someone else to forward it to the intended recipient. They should only be used if it is accessed exclusively by the student and/or is suitable for receiving confidential and private communications.

For example, the online test and tag course is based on the one day face-to-face course we used to provide. As a general indication, people with some electrical background tend to get through it all in a few hours whereas other students can take 3 to 4 hours.

To test and tag appliances you must be a competent person.
The primary aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to correctly test and tag a wide range of electrical appliances of a basic design in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 ie to become a competent person.
Note: Some jurisdictions may have different requirements.
If you can’t find your answer here, you can email or call us.
No. There are a number of reasons we decided not to provide the Nationally Accredited (NA) course;
- To do testing and tagging in Victoria (where we operate from) the requirement is you must be a competent person with no requirement to undertake a nationally accredited course. This does vary between the States / Territories. (more info about requirements in your jurisdiction)
- The current nationally accredited course only covers the bare minimum knowledge and skill sets. For most students this leaves them with significant gaps in their knowledge and skills once they leave the comfort of the classroom and enter the real world.
- Not being constrained by the strict content limitations of the Nationally Accredited courses has enabled us to write courses that cover everything in the nationally accredited course plus more.
- We see no value for students to have them pay an extra $150 – $200 to do the nationally accredited course that delivers less content than our non-accredited course.
No. We can not issue you with a license. This is because there is no recognised licensing system for test and tag technicians in Australia.

The quick answer is Yes.
You need to keep in mind that although completing this course will enable you to test and tag a wide range of appliances, it doesn’t cover the full range of skills and knowledge you will need to run a successful test and tag contracting business. However this course is a great starting point for you to find out if testing and tagging is right for you.
Also be aware local jurisdiction requirements do vary and some workplaces have different requirements. Check with your local regulators and authorities.
If you are serious about wanting to start your own business, let us know as we have access to a lot of knowledge and experience in this area that could be of value to you.
No formal qualifications or electrical training is required to do any of our courses. We will teach you everything that is required.
Most of the electrical theory is of a basic level. We are confident you will pick it up fairly quickly however our tutors are aware some students may not have a technical background so they are more than happy to explain the concepts in terms you will understand and go at a suitable pace.
Note: the requirements for some jurisdictions varies. See here for details
To perform testing and tagging you must meet the requirements of a competent person as defined in the standard AS/NZS 3760.
In short, this means you need to have an understanding of the application and requirements of the standard and be able to correctly perform the required tasks. The standard does not require a competent person to be a registered or qualified electrical practitioner. The recommended way to become a competent person is to attend a reputable test and tag course.
Some jurisdictions have specific requirements. Click here for information
Although the course does provide some references, it also references other clauses you need to familiarise yourself with. Therefore you will need access to a copy of the current version of the standard.
The standard AS/NZS 3760 is your key reference document for all your testing and tagging. It contains all the procedures and protocols you must adhere to whenever you test and tag an appliance.
If you have only read a small handful of “cherry picked” extracts (as some training organisations feel is enough) you will be left with gaping holes in your minimum knowledge requirements and would be unable to meet one of the requirements of being a competent person ie “…to have an understanding of the application and requirements of the standard.”
Even worse, if something was to go wrong and you were roped into an investigation by WorkSafe or the Coroner, pleading ignorance will not be an acceptable defence.
Therefore we strongly recommend you either get access to or obtain a copy and familiarise yourself with it.
