FAQs about our Online Test And Tag Courses

No formal qualifications or electrical training is required. We will teach you what you need to know.

Most of the electrical theory is of a fundamental level. We are confident you will pick it up fairly quickly however our tutors are aware some students may not have a technical background so they are available if you have any questions or need any help.

Yes, in the registration screen enter the number of students you want to register in the QTY field.

You have three payment options:

  1. Credit / debit card using our secure payment portal.
  2. EFT to our bank account.  Please ensure your details are entered on the transfer so we can quickly match it up and finalise your registration.
  3. PayPal

The “Pay By Invoice” option issues you an invoice for your accounts payable to handle. Payments can then be made using any of the above methods.

For each student you register we need you to record;

  • their name
  • a unique email address
  • a contact phone number

Please note: It is very important you record a unique email address for each student because this will become part of their unique login details. Using an email address accessed by more than one student will cause problems with their course progression and getting important information delivered to them in a timely manner.

We recommend against the use of generic email addresses, such as admin@ . These generic addresses can cause problems because it relies on someone else to forward it to the intended recipient. They should only be used if it is accessed exclusively by the student and/or is suitable for receiving confidential and private communications.

Yes. You will receive an email with a link to view or download your tax invoice.

Yes, the registration screen has provision to enter student details and the payer / accounts person details.

If you haven’t received any emails from us within 10 minutes, please check your email promotions or spam/junk folder in case it has been accidentally captured there.  If it’s not there, please contact us by email or phone and we’ll sort it our for you.

We have set up a number of “behind-the-scenes” systems to help ensure all our emails arrive in a timely manner however, some servers have very strict spam filter settings that can capture genuine emails.  To help overcome this, you can add support@tatsa.com.au in your “white list” settings.

It might also be worth contacting your email server provider and see if the system is blocking us for some reason.

No. There are a number of reasons we decided not to provide the Nationally Accredited (NA) course;

  1. To do testing and tagging in Victoria (where we operate from) the requirement is you must be a competent person with no requirement to undertake a nationally accredited course.  This does vary between the States / Territories. (more info about requirements in your jurisdiction)
  2. The current nationally accredited course only covers the minimum knowledge and skill sets. For most students this leaves them with big gaps in their skills once they leave the comfort of the classroom and enter the real world.
  3. Not being constrained by the strict content limitations of the Nationally Accredited course we have been able to write a course that covers everything in the nationally accredited course plus more.
  4. We see no value for students to have them pay an extra $150 – $200 to do the nationally accredited course that delivers less content than our non-accredited course.

To undertake the course you will need access to:

  • A computer / laptop
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Access to a copy of AS/NZS 3760 *

*  AS/NZS 3760 is an important document and will be referenced many times during the course. If you do not have access to a copy you can purchase one from Standards Australia or Standards New Zealand  or try a google search for other possible download sites. We strongly recommend you obtain your own copy as it is very likely you will need to refer to it from time to time after you have completed the course.

To practice the hands-on aspects of the online test and tag training and undertake the practical assessment, you will need;

  • An automated PAT (preferred) or
  • An insulation / continuity meter
  • Class 1, Class 2 appliances, an extension lead and a powerboard

NOTE: A digital multi-meter is not suitable for undertaking the course or practical assessment.

*  This is an important document and will be referenced many times during the course. If you do not have access to a copy you can purchase one from Standards Australia or Standards New Zealand  (the NZ site is usually cheaper) or try a google search for other possible download sites. We strongly recommend you obtain your own copy as it is very likely you will need to refer to it from time to time after you have completed the course.

This is an online course so there are no start dates like a classroom based course.

Once you have finalised your payment you have 24/7 access to the content and you can get started as soon as you are ready.

You will receive an email with your user name, a temporary password and a link to the login site.

If you haven’t received your login details, see the FAQ about not hearing from us.

Once the course payment is made recorded in our system you will receive an email with your log in details. Follow the prompts and you can get started immediately.

Payment by credit card usually only takes a minute or two to be finalised and updated in the system.

Payment by EFT may not appear in our account for 1 – 3 days.  We check the account and update the records every morning.

The course is based on the same 8 hours content provided in our former F2F short course.

With this online course you can go at your own pace. How quickly you get through it all will vary depending on your previous exposure to the information contained in the course.

As a general indication, people with some electrical background tend to get through it all in a few hours whereas other students can take 3 to 4 hours and some a bit longer.

There’s no hurry so just go at your own pace.  It is better to take your time and get the maximum benefit from the course than to rush through it and miss some important information.

No.  You can do the online test and tag training in one or more sessions.

You start whenever you are ready and go at your own pace. If you need to take a break you can log out, return when you are ready to continue and the system will remember exactly where you last got up to.

Just send us an email and they will typically respond the same day.  If you prefer to discuss it, you can give them a call.

Our support team works normal business hours so they might not get back to you until the next working day.

To test and tag appliances you must be a competent person.

The primary aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to correctly test and tag a wide range of electrical appliances of a basic design in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 ie to become a competent person.

Note: Some jurisdictions may have different requirements.

During checkout you will see a field to enter your promo code.  The system will automatically update your cart when you submit the code.

We have more information about our online test and tag course, and the other courses we offer on the main FAQ page.

Meet Your Trainer

John is recognised as an expert in the test and tag industry. This is due to his extensive and broad experience that began during 2004. At this time he was a member of his local VicSES (State Emergency Service) unit and was responsible for their equipment maintenance. As you can imagine, the reliability of emergency safety equipment is vital and John learned a lot about appliance testing and electrical testing in general as part of this role.

During 2007 John founded ACME Test and Tagging to provide test and tag services to workplaces across the Greater Melbourne area. Starting from scratch with no leads, no clients and no revenue, he quickly built a thriving business mainly due to his dedication to the core values of being fair, friendly and reliable.

Since starting the training programs during 2015 he has helped hundreds of people just like you to become test and tag certified. Now you can complete his online test and tag course, anywhere across Australia.
